Subtle refresher

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was presented three years ago and according to Hyundai it is now time for some changes. They are subtle in nature, but sometimes have quite a striking consequence.
We can’t really speak of a facelift, but the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is also being slightly modified in terms of appearance. The three-year-old EV will have slightly different bumpers. At the front, this is especially noticeable due to the slightly thicker and larger raised edge, which has a large gap at the top to leave room for the license plate. At the rear, the ‘diffuser’ part has become a bit wider and the upper part of the rear bumper is a bit tighter and, above all, emptier. The new bumper work secretly changes the Ioniq 5 even more, because it has become 2 cm longer. The roof has also become a bit longer, or at least the roof spoiler now protrudes a bit further. Just below that there is now a rear window wiper, although we already knew that it was coming.
The interior still looks almost the same, but here too something changes. There is a new button under which you can set a frequently used function. For example, you can access the settings for the ADAS systems at the touch of a button to – let’s just say – turn off the speed warning. We already know something similar from the Hyundai Kona, among others. Furthermore, Hyundai has moved the wireless charging deck for smartphones one floor up and the layout of the infotainment system has been slightly adjusted.
Are there any technical changes for the Hyundai Ioniq 5? Of course. The 77.4 kWh battery makes way for an 84 kWh battery, but secretly we already knew that. Hyundai just does not indicate what that does to the range. The chassis of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been overhauled and, according to the South Koreans, this should lead to more comfortable driving and less vibrations in the steering wheel. The sound insulation has also been improved.

Finally, also new is the N Line decoration for the Hyundai Ioniq 5. This of course follows the introduction of the particularly powerful Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. As you can see in the photo above, the front bumper is clearly similar to that of the 650 hp Ioniq. 5 N inspired. Not only that, it has thicker side skirts and stands on special 20-inch alloys. In the interior you can count on a sportier steering wheel, sports seats with N logos and red contrasting stitching.
It remains to be seen what the options will be here in the Netherlands. The refreshed Hyundai Ioniq 5 will first enter South Korean showrooms this month, with other markets to follow later this year. Dutch prices will also follow.
