The Ioniq 5 has not been with us for a year, but Hyundai is already announcing updates. The biggest news – literally – is a bigger battery pack, but more is about to change.
This is of course not a facelift, but the changes that Hyundai says it will implement to the Ioniq 5 are striking. First of all, the battery. The version with the largest battery pack currently has a capacity of 73 kWh (exactly: 72.6 kWh), but that will grow to 77.4 kWh. In both cases it concerns the gross capacity. The move is not very surprising, because the latter capacity is already being supplied in North America. We don’t yet know exactly what this will yield in terms of WLTP range, but it is obvious that it will be more than the 481 km that is now specified in the best case. In addition, the battery can soon be prepared, in the form of cooling or heating, for fast charging. That should speed up the charging process even further.
Digital mirrors
In addition, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will soon be optionally available with digital interior and exterior mirrors, as we know from the Audi E-tron, Lexus ES and Honda E. Cameras instead of mirrors, with all the consequences for appearance and air resistance. Smart Frequency Dampers, as Hyundai calls the shock absorbers, are intended to further increase comfort. In addition, there are some smaller equipment differences. For example, it will soon be possible to combine the black wheel arch and bumper edges of the simple versions with the full LED lighting of the more expensive variants. The modified Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be launched in the second half of the year, more details will undoubtedly follow in the run-up to that moment.
