The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s first, but certainly not the last, completely developed as an EV car. The angular Ioniq 5 will get the much flatter and rounder Ioniq 6 next year. That new electric Hyundai Ioniq 6 can now be seen better than ever from all angles.
In August, Techzle was able to show you the first two photos of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 thanks to Techzle reader Willem Vos. The test sample photographed by Vos has now been spotted again, although we can now show your car a lot better. What is immediately noticeable is that the Ioniq 6 has significantly more round shapes than the strikingly angular Ioniq 5. Another difference: the Ioniq 5 is a hatchback, this Ioniq 6 seems to be a sedan or liftback-like.
The Ioniq 6 is in fact the production version of the Hyundai Prophecy Concept, although the design department of Hyundai has greatly reduced the intensity of the design of the Prophecy. For those who were charmed by Hyundai’s study model, that may be a disappointment, as the Prophecy Concept seemed to be an almost Porsche Panamera-like model. The final Ioniq 6 also has a steeply sloping roofline, but should probably appeal to a larger audience with its less extravagant shape. In addition, the less steeply sloping buttocks provide the Ioniq 6 with a more usable luggage space. However, the Ioniq 6 – just like the Ioniq 5 probably only the more expensive versions – will have recessed handles. In addition, the electric Ioniq 6 seems to get a rear wing, just like its conceptual harbinger, although it is not yet entirely clear how Hyundai shapes this exactly.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has to make the life of the Tesla Model 3 more difficult than the Ioniq 5. The electric newcomer will probably be available with a 73 kWh battery, although Hyundai could also just bring the smaller 58 kWh package to the car to keep the price down. In addition, count on rear- and four-wheel drive versions. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available with 170 hp, 217 hp and 306 hp powertrains, while Kia brother EV6 even has a more than 580 hp version. Thanks to 400v and 800v on-board voltage, cars on the E-GMP platform with a charging capacity of up to 350 kW can be fully charged with farm-fresh power. The Ioniq 6 will be launched next year.
