Hyundai will continue its EV offensive later this year by launching the all-new Ioniq 6. This lower but still fully electric sister model of the Ioniq 5 can be seen from all angles on a new set of spy plates.
The Ioniq 5 was Hyundai’s first car developed primarily as an electric model and also the first of an entire Ioniq family. The Ioniq 5 will eventually be joined by a large electric SUV, on which the brand already gave a preview with the Seven Concept. Before that electric SUV from Hyundai comes on the market, we meet a much lower model: the Ioniq 6.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 was preceded by the Prophecy Concept, although the Ioniq 6 remains less faithful to the design of its conceptual predecessor than the Ioniq 5. Where the Ioniq 5 resembled the 45 Concept like two drops of water, Hyundai seems to be the coach of re-imagining the Prophecy Concept for the Ioniq 6. The basic shape is retained, which means that the Ioniq 6 will have a strongly sloping roofline and a strikingly pointed rear. Exactly how that back is designed can become interesting. It seems that Hyundai is putting a spoiler-like ornament on the buttocks of its sleek new EV.
As new as the appearance, as well known as the technology. Like the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 will be on a variant of the E-GMP platform. So count on engine versions and battery packs that you can also get in the Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 is available with a 58 kWh battery and has recently also been supplied with a 77 kWh instead of 73 kWh large package. We expect to see the production version of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 in the second half of this year.
