Finally we have extensive footage of the Hyundai Mistra, a brand new sedan from Hyundai with a distinct design. Remarkable: there will even be a fully electric version!
If you see this strikingly lined Hyundai Mistra immediately with your wallet at the ready, we have to disappoint. The Hyundai Mistra is a sedan developed by the Chinese joint venture Beijing Hyundai and sold only on the Chinese market. That this is quite a shortcoming, is evident from the technical specifications.
Hyundai Mistra
The Hyundai Mistra is a 4.78-meter sedan that stands on the N3 platform that debuted in 2019 under the then-new Sonata. That basis is also under the new Kia Sorento. The Hyundai Santa Fe also uses this technical basis. The Mistra is a sedan that nestles itself in China between a whole bunch of sedans unknown here. In fact, the Mistra, which has a 2.77 meter wheelbase, is the model to be just above the new Elantra in China, a model sold side-by-side with the old Elantra. A spot above the Mistra is the Lafesta. The Mistra seems spacious in any case, as the sedan’s luggage compartment has a capacity of 530 liters. In comparison: an E-Class Sedan only swallows 10 liters more in the back …
Hyundai Mistra
The new Mistra has an eccentrically designed exterior, which is worlds apart from the previous model. Not only does the Hyundai Mistra have a striking muzzle with a wide grille and two-storey lighting, but also an intense rear with knotted light clusters. On the sides we see two folds tapering towards the center of the car. The interior of the Mistra is completely ‘Hyundai 2021’ and that means that this Chinese newcomer will also get a strikingly designed steering wheel with behind it a digital instrumentation that is visually fused with the infotainment screen next to it.
Hyundai Mistra EV
The base engine of the Hyundai Mistra is a 143 hp and 178 Nm strong 1.8 MPi, a turbo-free four-cylinder that is always linked to a CVT transmission. Although that machine may not be the most modern piece of Hyundai technology, it does provide the car with a friendly entry-level price of around € 17,200. Hyundai also supplies the Mistra with a blown 1.5 T-GDI, a 170 hp and 254 Nm strong four-cylinder that is not mounted on a CVT, but on a seven-speed automatic transmission with double clutch. More interesting is the fully electric variant of the Hyundai Mistra. Hyundai also supplies the Mistra with a 57 kWh battery pack with which the car should be able to reach a range of 520 kilometers. Please note, this has been measured according to the not exactly accurate NEDC method. The electric Hyundai Mistra has a 184 hp and 310 Nm strong electric motor on the front axle. Its top speed: 165 km / h. The starting price of this electric Mistra in China is € 22,970. As said, the Hyundai Mistra is not coming to the Netherlands.
