Fuel Cell Hybrid!

Hyundai’s N division combines the past with the present in a very special way. During N-Day, it not only presented the RN22e, but also overloaded it with retro design but ultramodern N Vision 74. The Hyundai N Vision 74 is an electric coupé with a fuel cell on board!
Hyundai seems attached to the seventies and eighties and in particular to the Pony Coupé Concept, drawn by Giorgetto Giugiaro, that debuted in 1974. That study model already played a major role in the design of the Concept 45, the conceptual preview of the Ioniq 5 shown in 2019, which even referred to that 45-year-old concept car with its name. In addition, Hyundai applies stubborn, coarse pixel lighting to the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. More proof of Hyundai’s fondness for the past? Certainly, so came in 2021 with two special resto mods:the Pony EV and the Grandeur EV. Both electric, both pixelated. The brand new N Vision 74, which Hyundai is presenting at the same time as the spectacular RN22e, is a special reaffirmation of Hyundai’s preference for a combination of modern technology and retro design.

Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept from 1974
Hyundai is far from tired of Pony Coupé Concept. It grabs that show car again by its scribbles as a source of inspiration for the N Vision 74, although little remains of the basic shape. With a little imagination, the N Vision 74 seems to have driven away from the 80s, but nothing could be further from the truth. The show car is hypermodern. The 4.95 meters long and almost 2 meters wide coupé is the latest platform for hydrogen cars that Hyundai has in its development rooms. Yes, the N Vision 74 is an EV that gets part of the energy required for the electric motors from a fuel cell. Indeed, some of his energy. In contrast to the also electrically powered Hyundai Nexo equipped with a fuel cell, the N Vision 74 does not have a small battery pack, but a hefty 62.4 kWh.

Electric eraser enjoyment. Backspace?
680 hp on the rear wheels
The 85 kW fuel cell obtains its required hydrogen from tanks of 4.2 kg. The combination of the fuel cell and the large battery pack gives the N Vision 74 a range of more than 600 kilometers. Then it is important not to get carried away too often by the rest of the drivetrain. The N Vision 74 has two together more than 680 hp and 900 Nm strong electric motors that fully unleash their power on the rear wheels. It is therefore no wonder that Hyundai likes to portray the N Vision 74 crosswise. The top speed must be above 250 km/h.
Hydrogen
The N Vision 74 is less concrete than the RN22e, but is nevertheless an interesting eye-catcher. With the study model, Hyundai once again confirms its belief in the application of hydrogen. In September 2021, the brand mapped out its hydrogen route with Hydrogen Vision 2040. From 2028, Hyundai Group wants to supply commercial vehicles with a fuel cell, both small and large. Hyundai also foresees a future for hydrogen cars in the field of so-called Purpose Built Vehicles (PBV). In 2040, hydrogen technology must also be available for ‘robots, ships, aircraft and sports cars’.
