Hyundai World Cup Qatar

Fifa sponsor Hyundai has announced what kind of car fleet visitors to the World Cup in Qatar can expect. A large part of the fleet is electric, although this certainly does not apply to all cars.

According to Hyundai, we will see a unique fleet of vehicles in Qatar in a month’s time. It would be “the first time in the history of the sport that environmentally friendly vehicles have been involved in the event on this scale”. What scale, you ask? Well, Hyundai delivers a total of 616 vehicles to the event organization in Qatar. There are also buses and vans, but also 446 passenger cars.

Of those 446 cars, slightly more than half, namely 226 cars, will be hybrid or electric. Some of the other vehicles are also electric, because Hyundai also mentions electric buses for the press, for example.

Unfortunately, the exact composition of the fleet is not discussed and we therefore do not know which part of the ‘electrified’ part is completely electric. It is clear that the fully electric versions of the Genesis G80 and Genesis GV70 will be used. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 shown in the image is of course also going to Qatar. In the hybrid field, these are the Sonata HEV, Tucson HEV and Kona HEV.

With the stated number, there are still 220 cars that are apparently not electrified. Specific types are not mentioned in that category, but we can just imagine that the large SUV Palisade and spacious MPV/passenger bus Staria are suitable candidates.

Hyundai’s sister brand, Kia, also sponsors the World Cup. It is not yet known which Kia’s will be driving there.
