We’re not in the habit of going into detail about specific brands’ monthly sales abroad, but Hyundai did very well in March in the United States.
Hyundai was able to sell 75,403 cars in the US in the past month, reports Carscoops. Apart from the fact that that is a lot in an absolute sense, an unsuspecting European of course says nothing at all, but fortunately there is context. It turns out to be no less than 115 percent more than in March 2020.
The success is partly due to the new Tucson, a car that, according to the Dutch importer, is also very well received here. In the US, the Tucson was good for 15,744 units in March, a plus of no less than 159 percent. Another nice thing: with this number, the Tuscon accounted for roughly 75 percent of the complete first quarter of 2020 for this model in one month.
The larger Santa Fe, a rarity in the Netherlands, is also doing well in the US. Hyundai sold 11,538 units, 82 percent more than in the previous March. The Kona did little worse with 10,416 copies and the Palisade, a large seven-seater above the Santa Fe, managed to find 9,184 buyers.
Of the non-SUVs, the Elantra in particular performed well. This compact middle class, a sedan of the size i30, was given a completely new and very striking look last year. With success, apparently: Hyundai sold 12,598 units in one month, in a country where the SUV is even more powerful than here.
Carscoops rightly notes that these figures are all the more impressive in the light of the corona pandemic, although it must be said that this was already the case in March 2020.
For the quarter as a whole, Hyundai in the US is also on the rise, with 167,130 cars sold, 28 percent more than last year.
