Hyundai says it will send the brand-new Elantra to the world within a week. A first teaser is then sent into the world. The design is completely overhauled.
We have had to do without Hyundai Elantra since 2006, the car is happily driving elsewhere in the world. In North America that happens under the same name, in countries like South Korea the “four-door coupé” is called Avante. After just under five years, the seventh generation is now knocking on the door. Although the Elantra already became considerably tougher during a facelift in 2018, the new design promises to shake off the round design rigorously. Just like cars like the new i20 for our continent, the new sedan has been drawn according to Hyundai’s recent “Parametric Dynamics” design style.
That means that the new Elantra gets a rather angular nose with in all likelihood a large grille like Hyundai also mounts on the front of the new Grandeur. On the side we already see an impressive fold. The C-pillar extends in a straight line to the tailgate. The rear lights take the form of a horizontal “T” and probably merge into a strip. The inside is also carefully displayed. Hyundai makes a huge effort there and is working on a very tight whole. The screen for the multimedia seems to blend into the screen behind the (specially designed) steering wheel. The middle tunnel takes on a remarkable shape and seems to come out of an airplane. An air vent covers almost the entire width of the dashboard. Because the Elantra is on a new platform, it is longer, lower and wider, according to Hyundai.
Since 1990, Hyundai has sold 13.8 million Elantras and Avantes worldwide. On March 17, the canvas of the new Elantra will be drawn in California. Through the official channels, the car will probably again not see a Dutch road underneath.
