Hyundai Stargazer X

Hyundai knows how to make two models with a simple adjustment of one model. We peek far over the border and end up in Indonesia where the Hyundai Stargazer gets a rougher brother.

Hyundai is making more than good progress worldwide. The brand expects 2023 to be its best year ever. The Koreans owe their international success in part to their model strategy. Like many other major car manufacturers, Hyundai tailors its model range to the market in which it operates. As a result? Hyundai supplies a large range of models worldwide that you do not know at all in the Netherlands or Europe. From compact sedans and hatchbacks to large top sedans and MPVs. One of those MPVs is the Stargazer, which was launched mid-last year. The Hyundai Stargazer is now joined by a sister model with a slightly rougher edge.

Hyundai Stargazer X

Not only the front of the Hyundai Stargazer is pronounced.

This is the Hyundai Stargazer X. The brand has grabbed the existing Stargazer by the claws and then added slightly modified bumper work and black plastic trim for around the wheel arch edges. The Stargazer with X after its name also stands slightly higher on its legs than the regular model. Does it have four wheel drive? No. The 115 hp 1.5 sends its forces to the front wheels via a CVT, just like in the X-less Stargazer. The standard equipment of the Stargazer X is more extensive and it benefits from disc brakes – instead of drums – at the rear.

Like the regular Stargazer, the Stargazer X is a six- or seven-seater MPV. Why Hyundai in Indonesia pays so much attention to a segment that only plays a marginal role in Europe? Very simple: in Indonesia, the seven-seater MPV plays a very important role. Roughly 70 percent of the cars sold annually are such models. The Mitsubishi Xpander – of which there is also a rougher version – cannot be dragged in and even Citroën has recently had such a model on offer. Daihatsu sells no less than three seven-seaters in Indonesia: the Terios, the Sigra and the Xenia. Toyota sells its own versions of those Daihatsu’s. Another model in this class: the Honda BR-V.
