Hyundai still hit by a chip shortage

Hyundai seemed immune to the prevailing chip shortages, but that seems to be over for good. At the beginning of next week, a South Korean factory will be temporarily shut down, after this has already happened with another factory.

While one manufacturer after another was forced to reduce production due to a shortage of microchips, Hyundai managed to avoid these production problems for a long time. By purchasing on time, people in South Korea could initially continue to produce, but that is now definitely over, according to Yonhap.

The South Korean news agency reports that Hyundai will shut down production at a factory in Asan, Korea, next Monday and Tuesday. Among other things, the Grandeur and Sonata are made here, large sedans that are not sold in Western Europe.

Kona and Ioniq 5

Hyundai would also have shut down production in Ulsan, 414 km southeast of Seoul, between 7 and 14 April. That is the place where, among other things, the brand new Ioniq 5 is made, as is the worldwide very important Kona. According to Yonhap, Hyundai misses out on 6,000 Kona’s and 6,500 Ioniqs 5.
