The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid has been named ‘towing car of the year 2021’ by the ANWB. It leaves the Ford Kuga PHEV and the Seat Leon 1.5 eTSI behind. The jury is of the opinion that the chassis has ‘the right characteristics for a caravan tractor’.
We are of course only halfway through the year, but with the summer holidays just around the corner, it might be nice to know which car is best for a holiday with the caravan. The jury hung a caravan behind the Tucson Hybrid and drove it over the hilly Posbank. It was concluded that the 230 hp and 350 Nm strong SUV, which has a maximum towing weight of 1,650 kilograms, could handle the caravan very well. According to the jury, the hybrid system functioned ‘flawlessly’. The ESP with standard trailer function was also a plus. In addition, the Hyundai lighting check also includes the lamps of the caravan, so that you never drive around unlit.
Another point that appealed to the jury was the camera system that shows the blind spots in the dashboard when you indicate direction. The Tucson is also available as a plug-in hybrid, but that variant did not take home the title. Although the plug-in has more power than the regular hybrid, it can pull 300 kilograms less. In addition, the starting price of the Hybrid is a lot lower than that of the plug-in hybrid. A no-brainer for the regular caravan camper, you might say.
