I bought an iPhone 15 Plus but now regret it (and this would have been the better choice)

While I love the iPhone 15 Plus, I recently realized that I actually prefer the iPhone 15 Pro. Here’s why.

I would rather have an iPhone 15 Pro

After an iPhone 12, I switched to an iPhone 15 Plus and that was a deliberate choice. The 15 Plus is everything I expected it to be and I am therefore completely satisfied with it. If an iPhone 15 Pro had not landed on my desk, I would never have known that I would have preferred that. I now know and I will explain why.

Always-on display

Always-on is something I’ve never missed. In fact, I was convinced that an always-on display was completely unnecessary and that only confirmed my choice for an iPhone 15 Plus. I still believe it’s unnecessary, but it’s the first thing I noticed when an iPhone 15 Pro landed on my desk. And the more I looked at it, the more I liked it. And soon enough, I started to miss it on my iPhone 15 Plus.

The always-on display is possible because the iPhone 15 Pro screen is equipped with ProMotion. A screen with ProMotion has a refresh rate of 120Hz. This makes scrolling through your social media, for example, look much smoother. The iPhone 15 Plus screen does not have ProMotion.

Appearance

The second thing that struck me is the more luxurious look of the iPhone 15 Pro. I knew this difference existed, but I always thought it was unimportant. And I still think so. Still, I can’t deny that I find the iPhone 15 Pro with the titanium edges more attractive than the iPhone 15 Plus, even though I only really see that when they are side by side. It’s not a major argument in this article, but it does play a small part.

Dimensions and weight

I chose the iPhone 15 Plus partly because I wanted a larger screen. I still like that, but I have also experienced the disadvantages. I find the screen just a little too big to be able to operate it easily, especially with one hand. And I actually find the higher weight that comes with it even more annoying. Especially when you use the iPhone for a long time.

Up until now, I could easily accept this. But now that I’ve come into contact with an iPhone 15 Pro, I notice that I actually prefer that size and weight, even though it only differs by 14 grams in weight.

A better camera

I really like the camera on the iPhone 15 Plus. And here too, I wouldn’t have known what I was missing if that iPhone 15 Pro hadn’t landed on my desk. It has an even better and more versatile camera. And once you’ve experienced that, you don’t want to go back. And in my case, that applies especially to the macro mode that is missing on the iPhone 15 Plus.

An action button

Again, I would never have missed this if I hadn’t been able to try it out at my leisure. The mute button on the iPhone 15 Plus also works fine. However, it turns out that the action button works better, even when you only use the exact same function. The big advantage of the action button, however, is that you can easily assign a different function to it.

Why not just go for an iPhone 15 Pro right away?

So the iPhone 15 Pro has a few things that I only really wish I had in retrospect. I did consider the device at the time, but I didn’t really see those things as added value at the time. Also, the iPhone 15 Pro was more expensive than the iPhone 15 Plus.

And there was one argument that made me choose the iPhone 15 Plus: the battery life. The iPhone 15 Plus has a battery with a capacity of 4383 mAh, which is considerably larger than that of the iPhone 15 Pro (3274 mAh).

In practice, this means that you can listen to music for a whopping 25 hours longer with the iPhone 15 Plus than with the iPhone 15 Pro (100 hours vs 75 hours). That could be a huge plus for many people. In retrospect, I actually think that I would have been more than satisfied with the battery life of the iPhone 15 Pro.
