One of the UK’s largest private collections of Yamaha production racers will be auctioned by Iconic Auctioneers at the MCN London Bike Show on February 16.
Introduced in the late 1960s, these machines were produced by Yamaha as full-fledged racing bikes, but were available from your local dealer. Yamaha stopped producing them in the 1990s.
These machines gave everyone the opportunity to compete in top level motorcycle racing, you could literally buy one of those bikes and compete in the world championships. They were race ready, complete and with a spare parts package. No other manufacturer offered this at the time.
“Yamaha collections are unusual, especially racing bikes, and a collection of this quality is very rare, to my knowledge I cannot recall a collection like this having been offered for auction before. There are some super rare bikes included and they are all presented in good, restored condition. It is perhaps one of the largest private collections of Yamaha production racers in the UK and I am honored to be able to offer this collection in London in February.”
The collection is owned by motorcycle dealer Glyn Marriott, an ex-racer who raced similar motorcycles during that period. All engines have been restored, all have the same numbers and are original. They have been on display in Glyn’s dealership for years.
The collection includes some early “air-cooled” machines, a TD-2 250cc and a TR-2 350cc and a very rare TZ750D with Maxton frame. Other notable motorcycles are the TZ500D, TZ250A, TZ700A and a TZ750D with matching numbers. The combined value of the collection is estimated at around £250,000.
