If the wart virus is on an object and you touch it, do you get warts on your hands?
Asker: Esther, 20 years old
Answer
It all depends on how long a virus can survive on a surface. The ‘bug’ likes a warm, moist environment and could survive there for months. If your skin is damaged at the place of contact, the chance of getting a wart increases.
The chance of an infection, and therefore getting a wart, by touching a dry object is therefore minimal or non-existent, especially if your own skin is dry and undamaged.
