Shine and Glory in the Palace Garden

Of the corona setbacks that drove the organizers of the Concours d’ d’Elegance to despair over the past two years, nothing was noticeable at all last weekend during the largest classic car event in the Netherlands. The beautiful summer weather attracted thousands of visitors to the temporary open-air museum around the former Royal Palace of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard, with the palace gardens more than lavishly filled with the most beautiful cars from the past, present and future, the central theme of this 2022 edition, which may above all also be regarded as a prelude to the future.
The grandeur of the entourage, the multitude of special cars on display and the enthusiastic response from both spectators and participants emphasized the potential to become a top event on the international calendar in the coming years.
The competition winner: the 1937 Bugatti T57 Stelvio Cabriolet Speciale by Jaap Bram Ruben
The competition jury (including AutoWeek’s Michiel Willebrands) examined no fewer than nine different categories: 75 years of Ferrari, Iconic Sport Cars of the 80’s & 90’s, Pre War Special Coachwork, Italian Post War Special Coachwork, Carrozzeria Italiana 50’s and Carrozzeria Italiana 60’s, Lancia Flaminia, Mille Miglia Originals, Gentlemen’s Sportscars 50’s & 60’s and British Open 30’s. When the winners in all these specific categories had received their cups, flowers, the 1937 Bugatti T57 Stelvio Cabriolet Speciale of Jaap Bram Ruben was chosen as the overall competition winner.
