In the Wild: Opel Monza (1981)

An Opel Monza, when do you still see it? A Monza A like this has really become a rarity, especially the version that we have here in front of us. It certainly deserves to be put in the limelight.

We thank Techzle reader Fredo for sending us these photos. Even though the car cannot be admired from all angles because of its parking space, the detailed photos more than make up for that! And the details are important in this case. What to think of the wipers on the headlights and the skylight for example. That already indicates that we do not just see a Monza here, but one that is good at its stuff. It is namely a Monza 3.0 E. The version with the thickest engine, the 3.0-liter six-in-line that produces 180 hp. That made the Monza the fastest Opel ever in its time. After all, with this you shot to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds and you could continue up to 215 km / h.

However, there is a catch. According to the registration data, this is a Monza with automatic transmission. That makes us think, because as far as we know the coupé was only available with manual transmission. This specimen therefore appears to have spent its life elsewhere until 2002, presumably in Germany. The machine was available there anyway. So what’s the catch, you might ask? Well, the automatic took a bite out of the Monza’s performance. Those who could not change gears themselves needed 1.5 seconds more patience before 100 km / h on the counter from standstill.

A grumpy ear that pays attention to this, because with such a Monza you certainly do not have to be ashamed. A wonderfully striking thing, which looks like it looks very nice. The owner probably fell in love with it at the beginning of this year, because he has only been in the name of his current owner since January. On to even more beautiful years!
