Indian recalls 4 units of 2022 FTR, smallest recall ever?

When you think of recalls, you immediately think that they involve huge numbers, but Recall #24V-860 from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) could well go down in history as the smallest recall.

What’s going on? On September 26, 2024, the Indian Motorcycle Company received a dealer report about a hole in the gas tank. On October 10, 2024, IMC reviewed the internal files and noted that the engine in question had been modified during certification testing.

An additional audit of units that had undergone the same certification testing was then conducted, resulting in the identification of a total of 4 engines that were converted for sale in the US after undergoing certification testing.

On October 24, 2024, IMC began an investigation. IMC found no reports of fire or injuries associated with the issue and has not identified any NDFRs. On November 7, 2024, IMC’s Executive Review Committee determined that the problem with the modified fuel tank resulted in a safety-related defect.

The recall concerns 1 unit of the 2022 FTR1200 R Carbon, 1 unit of the 2022 FTR 1200 Rally, 1 unit of the 2022 FTR 1200 S and 1 unit of the standard version, the 2022 FTR1200.
