Indian recalls entire 2025 Scout and Scout Sixty family: incorrect neutral position

Indian Motorcycles has rolled out a recall for all versions of last year’s completely redesigned Scout and Scout Sixty. The gear indicator may erroneously indicate a neutral position, causing the motorcycle to roll unexpectedly, which could lead to a crash.

On October 10, 2024, the Indian Motorcycle Company received a warranty claim from a motorcycle that started moving forward while the gear indicator was in neutral. Two weeks later, an investigation was started, during which the engine in question could be inspected.

On November 11, 2024, IMC received a second report of an engine that had unintentionally started moving, this engine was made available for investigation on December 5. In November, IMC had already started conducting internal tests to gain more insight into the impact of the tolerance at component level with regard to the potential problem.

On December 17, 2024, the Executive Review Committee of the Indian Motorcycle Company decided that unintentional starting is a safety issue. In total, IMC received four claims of an incorrect neutral indication, in one case someone was injured.

Indian Motorcycle will inform dealers about the issue and provide instructions to program the Engine Control Module (ECM). The new ECM software has improved voltage limits between gears, including first to neutral and second to neutral, to indicate the correct gear.

The recall concerns the 2025 Indian Scout Sixty Bobber, Scout Bobber, Scout Bobber Limited, Scout Bobber Sixty Limited, Scout Classic, Scout Classic Limited, Scout Sixty Classic, 101 Scout, Sport Scout, Sport Scout Limited, Sport Scout Sixty, Sport Scout Sixty Limited and finally the Super Scout Limited. These models were produced between January and December 2024.

In the United States alone there are 4,926 models that have to be returned to the dealer, in the Netherlands about 75 units were sold last year.
