Indian has issued a recall for the FTR 1200. The coolant hose manifold may be broken, causing the engine to leak coolant. The hot liquid can end up on the rider or rear tire, with dire consequences.

In February 2022, a test driver was hit with coolant during test work on an FTR under development, but was not injured. Indian Motorcycle immediately started an investigation and also contacted the supplier of the manifold that the coolant had started to leak.
During that investigation, no fewer than 64 reports from customers about leaks at the manifold surfaced, in 4 cases of which the rider had had the coolant on him. In no event had the spill resulted in crashes, injuries or deaths.
On August 16, 2022, the Executive Review Committee decided that if the manifold leaked while driving, it was a safety issue and a recall has therefore been issued.
Parent company Polaris will inform dealers and instruct them to replace the affected manifold. The supplier has modified the material composition to improve performance at operating temperature and reduce variation during production.
On August 19, Polaris halted the delivery of units containing the offending component. Delivery will resume after the units have been replaced.
The recall concerns the 2019-2022 FTR1200, FTR1200S and FTR1200 Rally. Owners will be notified of the recall.
