BYD

BYD offers a huge fleet of models in China and there is a huge number of electric cars in between. BYD certainly doesn’t keep its electrical goods to itself. Through importer Louwman, BYD will also sink its teeth into the Dutch car market with the Atto 3, Han and Tang. We now have the indication prices of the electric trio of dream builders.

The most relevant of the three cars with which BYD introduces itself to the Dutch consumer is the Atto 3, a compact electric crossover of which Jan Lemkes was able to give you a virtual tour. The BYD Atto 3 is a crossover with a 204 hp electric motor on the front wheels and a 60 kWh battery pack in the bottom, good for a WLTP range of about 420 kilometers. If you kick the Atto 3 on its tail, you will zoom to a speed of 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. The battery pack can be pumped up again with a maximum of 88 kW with farm-fresh power.

The BYD Atto 3 will cost around €38,000 in Germany. Of course we cannot translate that one-on-one to a Dutch starting price, but it is indicative in any case. For comparison: the Peugeot e-2008 costs about 36 grand and has a 50 kWh battery and a 136 hp electric motor. However, it should be noted that the e-2008 will probably soon also receive the improved powertrain of the electric e-208 and e-308. The new electric Kia e-Niro (204 hp, 64.8 kWh) costs at least €43,795 in the Netherlands.

During our first acquaintance, the Atto 3 was particularly impressive with its interior. That is because it is specially designed and is packed with special colours, materials and idiosyncratic details. A glass panoramic roof (which can really open) is standard, just like in the Han and the Tang.

BYD Han

The electric Han also finds its way to the Netherlands and becomes active in a completely different segment. The BYD Han is an almost 5 meter long electric sedan. The Han, which is also available as a plug-in hybrid in its home country of China, has two electric motors and is therefore a four-wheel drive. The two electric motors together produce 518 hp and with that he completes the 0-100 sprint in 3.9 seconds. In the bottom is an 85.4 kWh battery, good for a range of 521 kilometers. You can recharge an empty battery with up to 120 kW using a fast charger. The BYD Han will cost around €72,000 in Germany, making it significantly more expensive than the smaller Atto 3.

What can you buy in the Netherlands for about 72 grand? Among other things, the also about 5 meters long Mercedes-Benz EQE. It is available from about €69,000, although you do have a 245 hp strong rear-wheel drive variant without options. However, it does note a range of 622 kilometers behind its name. A motorically more comparable version of the EQE is the 43 4Matic, although it is an AMG version. It has two 476 hp powerful electric motors and a 90 kWh battery, good for a range of 531 kilometers. Mercedes-Benz is asking €108,890 for that version.

BYD Tang

The third and highest BYD that will soon come to the Netherlands is the Tang. The Tang is a 4.9 meter long electric SUV with three rows of seats and therefore seven seats. It has an 86.4 kWh battery in its bottom and, just like the Han, has two 518 hp electric motors together. The BYD Tang can travel 400 kilometers on a full battery and can reach 100 km/h from standstill in 4.6 seconds. The BYD Tang, like the Han in Germany, will cost about €72,000.

Again: we are talking about German prices here, which are at most indicative of what the cars can cost in the Netherlands. So don’t be surprised if the prices in the Netherlands are several thousand euros higher or lower. In October, BYD will release more information about its newcomers and we may hear what the cars will cost in the Netherlands. BYD also has more interesting models, including an electric MPV that BYD has registered the design of in Europe. BYD has also registered the design of the Seal in Europe. The BYD Seal is a 4.8-meter-long electric sedan that may be called Atto 4 elsewhere outside of China.

Are you charmed by BYD’s models? If so, which ones and why? Or can the entire brand be stolen from you? Let me know!
