Ineos and Hyundai intend to collaborate in the field of hydrogen technology. For Ineos’ Grenadier there may be a Hyundai fuel cell due to this collaboration.
Ineos and Hyundai have signed a memorandum of understanding, working towards a future collaboration in hydrogen technology. As a petrochemical company, Ineos is already involved on a large scale with hydrogen and produces 300,000 tons of the stuff annually. Together with Hyundai, it wants to look at ways to use it for cars with fuel cells. They talk about the joint development of new technologies, production processes and applications around hydrogen. More concrete is what is in it for Ineos as a car manufacturer: a fuel cell for the Grenadier.
According to current plans, the Grenadier will only be delivered with six-in-line petrol engines from BMW, but now an electric variant can also be considered. For that, menIneos likes to look in the kitchen at Hyundai, especially in the department where the Nexo was developed. That is Hyundai’s most recent production model with a fuel cell. The Nexo has 156 liters of hydrogen storage capacity and the fuel cell provides enough electricity for a range of up to 665 km (WLTP). The Ineos Grenadier may eventually get that technology under its retro key, although it is of course still an early relationship between Hyundai and Ineos. However, it is already interesting.
