Instagram is currently rolling out a new feature in Europe. It concerns Notes – a kind of Instagram Stories, but in the form of a short text message.
What are Instagram Notes?
Instagram Notes is a feature you see when you navigate to your messages in Instagram. If the function is already present on your iPhone, you will see a horizontal row at the top with profile photos of people you follow, with a short message above it.
This text is an Instagram Note. They are messages that consist of a maximum of 60 characters and emojis are also allowed. Just like with your Instagram Stories, the text messages will disappear within 24 hours. The feature was already released in other parts of the world in December.
From asking for recommendations to sharing your plans for the day, Notes are an accessible way to connect with your followers. Users can tap and comment on your Instagram Note; this message will then appear as a DM in your inbox.
How do you make an Instagram Note?
Instagram is currently rolling out the Notes feature in Europe, so you may not see it yet. Should you have access to the feature, here’s how to add an Instagram Note:
- Open the Instagram app;
- Go to your chat messages, via the icon in the top right corner;
- Tap ‘Let me know what’s on your mind’;
- Write your text message and indicate who you want to share it with;
- Tap “Share” to publish the post.
Your note will be visible for 24 hours, at the top of the list of chats. After that it will be automatically deleted. It is not possible to edit a note, but you can delete it by tapping it and choosing ‘Delete note’.
Instagram Notes is server-enabled: this means you don’t need to update Instagram to see the feature. Unless you haven’t updated Instagram in a long time. To check if you have the latest version, open the App Store and navigate to ‘Instagram’ via the search bar. If it says ‘Update’ next to the logo, an update is ready. Tap it to install the latest Instagram version.
