Stories automatically disappear from the Instagram Stories list in the feed after 24 hours. It is possible for the owner of the Stories to add them to his profile as highlights afterwards. Learn how to add Instagram Stories as highlights to your profile page here.
Instagram Stories Highlights
Do you like to post images or videos on Instagram Stories? Then you have probably posted a Story that you would like to be able to show to your Instagram followers for more than 24 hours. Unfortunately, this is not possible with the current elaboration of Stories on Instagram. Instagram does offer its users an option to make the posted Stories visible for longer in another place.
Before that, Instagram introduced the highlights feature for the profile page of an Instagram account. With these highlights you can bundle stories under a bullet on your profile. Take, for example, the Stories from a recent vacation – after the vacation has ended, you could group these Stories under a ‘Vacation ..’ highlight. Instagram has set no limits for the highlights, so you can add as many Stories as you want.
In addition, you can always adjust highlights afterwards, so that extra Stories can be added, or so that Stories can be removed from the ‘highlights’. Of course, Instagram also lets you customize the highlight’s name and photo, and you can remove the highlight from your profile if you wish. How that works is obvious once you get started with the function: that’s what you came to this article for, of course. So let’s get started.
Add Stories highlight(s)
Adding the Stories highlights is possible via the Instagram app on Android and iOS. All the steps below have been checked on an Android phone, so it could be that you sometimes have a different button on an iOS device. However, the majority of the functions will be the same or almost the same.
- Open the Instagram app on Android
- Click on you at the bottom right Instagram profile
- On your profile page click on the + icon at the text New
- Select the Stories that you want to add to the highlight
- Click on the top right Next one
- add a name ready for the climax and change the cover photo (if desired)
- Then click Finished to add the highlight to your profile

The highlight can then be admired directly on your profile and remains visible until you remove it from it – unlike the Stories, highlights have no expiration date. If you want to edit the highlight, simply long-press it and click Edit Highlight. Do you ever post highlights on your profile, or are you planning to now?
