Nothing was as big a middle finger to both people and the environment as a Hummer as it regularly appeared in music videos in the 0s of this decade. The name would return on May 20, this time not on a gas gargling giant, but on an EV. However, the presentation of the reborn Hummer has been delayed, and the reason behind it is easy to guess.
Hummer, we mainly know it as the defunct brand of General Motors that with models like the H1 and later the H2 and H3 put his nose to everything that had to do with efficiency. After a short detour via China, the brand name returned to General Motors and in particular to the GMC brand. GMC, which mainly produces SUVs and pickups, intends to stick ‘Hummer’ on a fully electric model: the Hummer EV. Unfortunately, the world will meet that newcomer later than planned.
The GMC Hummer EV would initially be introduced to the general public on May 20, but General Motors now reports that it is forced to postpone the presentation of the model to an unknown date. GMC itself does not state a direct reason for postponing the arrival of the car. Since the return of the name ‘Hummer’ can certainly be described in the United States as ‘quite a thing’, and large presentations complete with media and potential customers are not included in the coming period, the corona virus is probably the cause of the to postpone delay.
GMC takes the opportunity to immediately throw a new teaser into the world. It seems that the Hummer EV will not become an SUV, but will be cast in the form of a four-door pick-up with a relatively short body. Incidentally, there were also variants of the H1 and H3 with an open body. The fully electrically powered colossus should be about 1,000 horsepower and should be able to sprint to a speed of 100 km / h in seconds.
