Do you want to give your home screen a makeover? Then you can get started with new app icons in iOS 14. You can choose images for your favorite apps with the Assignments app. That’s how you do it.
Tip: this is how you choose your own images as the app icon in iOS 14
With the arrival of widgets and the app library, you get the option in iOS 14 to set up your home screen the way you want it. But did you know that you can even give your app icons a personal twist? You can do this via the Assignments app on iOS.
First of all, it is important that you collect images that you want to use as an app icon. You can search the internet for a nice picture, but it is also possible to draw an icon yourself. The size of an app icon for iOS is 180 x 180 pixels.
For this tip we have this iPhone picture signed. You can use it to try it out, or get started yourself and draw a picture. We show you how to use this image as an icon for the only real iPhoneapp. To do this, follow the steps below.
- Open the Assignments app and tap the plus sign at the top right;
- Tap on ‘Add task’;
- Search for ‘Open app’ and confirm your choice;
- Tap on ‘Choose’ and enter the name of the app for which you want to change the icon;
- Then tap the three dots at the top right of the screen;
- Enter the name of the app and then tap ‘add to home screen’;
- Enter the name of the app again under ‘Name and symbol for home screen’;
- Now it is time to add a picture. Tap the order icon and then ‘Choose photo’;
- Choose your desired photo and confirm your choice.
The app is now on your home screen with a new icon. Please note: because you have set up an assignment to open the app in this way, the Assignments app will be opened briefly before you are forwarded to the app. You will also no longer see badges on these app icons.
You can move the apps with ‘old’ icons to the app library. You do this by holding down the home screen for a long time until the apps start to wobble. Press the minus button in the top left of the ‘old’ app and then choose ‘Move to app library’. It is important that you do not delete these apps or your new app icons will no longer be able to open the app.
