Apple has released iOS 17.6. 1! It’s important to install the update right away, as it fixes a major software issue. Here’s what you need to know.
Apple Releases iOS 17.6.1
There is a new update available for your iPhone! Last week iOS 17.6 was released, in which Apple did not introduce any new features. iOS 17.6.1 also does not add any new features to the iPhone, but it does fix an important software problem. For some users, ‘Advanced Data Protection’ did not work properly.

In 2022, Apple added Advanced Data Protection to iCloud Plus. The feature protects your data in iCloud with end-to-end encryption. This should ensure that your information in iCloud can only be decrypted on trusted devices. This also protects your notes, photos, and Apple Wallet in the event of an iCloud data breach. In iOS 17.6.1, Apple fixes issues that arose when turning Advanced Data Protection on or off.
Advanced data protection not working
After installing iOS 17.6, some users were no longer able to turn Advanced Data Protection on or off. These users received an error message when turning the function on or off. The iPhone settings showed that Advanced Data Protection was not active, but this was not always correct. This problem has been resolved on the iPhone since iOS 17.6.1.
Apple emphasizes that all users affected by the error message are aware of the software problem. If you did not receive a notification, but are using the function, you have not been affected by the software error. After installing iOS 17.6.1, a notification appears on all iPhones that were affected by the problem. This message asks users to check the Advanced Data Protection settings again and adjust them if necessary.
Installing iOS 17.6.1
Apple has released iOS 17.6. 1 to all users, so you can update your iPhone right now. To do so, go to your device’s Settings and tap ‘General > Software Update > Update Now’. If you’re unable to update your phone right now, select ‘Update Tonight’ so that your iPhone automatically updates overnight.

It is advisable to install the update as soon as possible, because it concerns an important bug in the software. Especially if you use iCloud Plus, it is wise to update to iOS 17.6.1 quickly.
