When you play music or a video on your iPhone or iPad, the speakers of your device are of course used to reproduce the audio when no headphones are connected. Starting with iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, you can set a volume limit for the speakers.
This means that it can limit the minimum and maximum sound output. This way you can ensure that the internal speakers do not use more than 80% of their capacity. This can be useful if the kids regularly watch videos on the iPad and you don’t want the volume to be too loud.
Set speaker volume limit
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Navigate to ‘Hear and feel’
- Tap ‘Volume Limiter’
- Enable the ‘Limit maximum volume’ option
- Use the slider to limit the volume
Once the option is enabled, you have the option to limit the volume of the iPhone and iPad speakers between 20% and 90%.

Due to the frequent use of headphones, AirPods and headsets, more and more people, but especially young people, have suffered hearing damage in recent years.
That is why it is possible to set a volume limit for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
