Apple is rolling out minor updates for the iPhone and iPad. From now on you can download iOS 14.5.1 and iPadOS 14.5.1. In this article you can check how you can install this new software.
Download iOS 14.5.1
Last week Apple released iOS 14.5 and now it is time for another, minimal update. iOS 14.5.1 and iPadOs 14.5.1 are available for download from now on. Once Apple releases a new version of iOS, many people want the software. This may mean that the update may not be visible on your iPhone or iPad yet. Just a matter of patience and try again later.
How to install iOS or iPadOS 14.5.1:
- Make sure your iPhone or iPad battery is at least 50 percent full, or hang it on the charger;
- Go to the Settings app and tap ‘General’;
- Select ‘Software Update’ and follow the instructions on the screen.
iOS 14.5.1 does not add great new features to your iPhone. It is mainly a security update. Apple is also making improvements to the tracker alert that the company has built in since iOS 14.5. The update is available on the iPhone 6s and later and the iPad Yet (7th generation). iPadOS 14.5.1 can be downloaded on the iPad Air 2 and newer and the iPad mini 4 and newer.
Security update for older iPhones
Apple is also releasing a security update for a number of iPhones and iPads that no longer support iOS 14: iOS 12.5.2. The devices eligible for this update are:
- iPad Air (first generation)
- iPad Mini (second and third generation)
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6 (Plus)
- iPod Touch (6th generation)
It is especially important on these types of older devices to install security updates as soon as possible. If you don’t, you are very vulnerable to viruses and other nastiness.
MacOS 11.3.1 now also available
Apple also today released macOS 11.3.1, the new software version for your MacBook, iMac or Mac mini. This is again a minor security update that is recommended for all users. It is available on all devices that also run macOS 11.3. You can download the update as follows:
- Open the System Preferences;
- Click on the ‘Software updates’ button;
- Wait for macOS Big Sur to appear here and click on ‘Update’;
- Wait for the download to complete and follow the steps on the screen.
