iPhone 14 gets old A15 chip, but gets a little faster

Until now, the iPhone 14 seemed to be a bit disappointing compared to its Pro brother. For example, the ‘regular’ 14 would get the old A15 chip. But it is rumored to be faster!

A16 in iPhone 14 Pro, A15 in iPhone 14

Months ago, the rumor surfaced that Apple wants to give the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro two different processors. While the iPhone 14 Pro would get a brand new A16 chip, the iPhone 14 would continue to use the A15 chip. However, now sounds are surfacing that this version of the A15 chip will be more powerful than the one in the iPhone 13.

iPhone 14 gets improved A15 chip

In March of this year, the usually well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that only the iPhone 14 Pro will get the new A16 chip. Or rather: the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be equipped with this chip. The non-Pro models (iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max) still get the A15 chip.

In April of this year, Apple expert Mark Gurman substantiated these rumors. He also spoke about the iPhone 14 getting the A15 or a variant of the A15 chip. This would mean that Apple has a different strategy this year than in previous years, when the non-Pro and Pro models got an identical chip.

These improvements will get the A15

Now, however, there is some reassuring news. The knowledgeable ShrimpApplePro tweets that the A15 chip for the iPhone 14 will receive several performance improvements.

For example, a new internal design and a new 5G modem are expected. In addition, there would be more RAM in it. The current iPhone 13 has 4 GB of RAM, with the iPhone 14 it could be 6 GB. The updated internal design could increase the clock speed a little bit, or allow the chip to run at full throttle for longer.

Apple could possibly call this ‘new’ A15 chip A15X or A15Z. We already know those kinds of names from earlier iPad Pro models.
