1. Set Sleep Timer
The first of these iPhone tips is for anyone who uses music or a podcast to fall asleep to. It is then a good idea to enable the Sleep Timer feature. After all, you don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night because Spotify keeps playing. Fortunately, setting it up is very simple:
- Tap the song that is playing;
- Tap the three dots at the top right;
- Scroll a bit and tap ‘Sleep Timer’;
- Choose the desired time.
It is also possible to use Spotify as an alarm clock, although you have to put in a little more effort. Read the article Set Spotify as an alarm clock on your iPhone (this is how you do it).
2. Disable audio normalization!
Number two of these iPhone tips is about the Audio Normalization feature. This is intended to ensure that all music is played at the same volume. That may sound like a good idea, but it also has a downside. You’ll be amazed at how much better and livelier some songs sound if you disable this option (it can vary greatly from song to song). We recommend you give it a try. You do this as follows:
- Tap your profile photo at the top left;
- Now tap ‘Settings and privacy’;
- Tap ‘Play’ and scroll down;
- Disable ‘Enable audio normalization’.
3. Tip for people who listen to entire albums
Number three of these iPhone tips is probably for slightly older readers. It sounds quite old-fashioned, but there are still plenty of people who like to listen to an entire album by an artist, also on Spotify.
There are two things that can detract from the listening experience. You don’t want an unnatural pause between songs. And you don’t want a random song to automatically start when the album ends. Therefore, follow the following steps:
- Tap your profile photo at the top left;
- Tap ‘Settings & Privacy’ then ‘Playback’;
- Enable the ‘Continuous playback’ option;
- Turn off “Autoplay similar content.”
If necessary, set a few more seconds using the slider under ‘Swipe numbers’. We think three seconds works well.
4. More targeted search for music
Number four of this week’s iPhone tips will help you better find what you’re looking for. If you know exactly what you are looking for, you can usually find everything in Spotify. It only becomes more difficult if you don’t know exactly. Then it is good to know that there are more options.
You can also search based on a part of the song lyrics. So you don’t have to go to Google first, you can simply type in the part you remember in Spotify. Or maybe you know the artist but not the title. Then you can try to refine your search with AND (and) or NOT (not), as in the example below.

5. Use Siri for Spotify
It is also possible to control Spotify with Siri on your iPhone. This way you can play music, like certain songs, ask what is currently playing, etc. You must first enable the option once. In number five of these iPhone tips we show you how to do that:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap ‘Siri & Search’;
- Scroll down and tap ‘Spotify’;
- Turn on Use with Ask Siri.
6. Place the Spotify widget on the Lock screen
We conclude this week’s iPhone tips with a handy Spotify widget. This allows you to launch the Spotify app directly from the Lock screen. So you no longer have to swipe up, scroll through your apps and launch Spotify before you can listen to your favorite music. This is how you set it:
- Long press the Lock screen;
- Tap ‘Customize’ at the bottom;
- Select ‘Access screen’ on the left;
- Tap the widget bar (if your widget bar is already full, you must first delete one by tapping the minus sign);
- Choose the Spotify widget, under ‘Add widgets’;
- Close the window and tap Done to save the Lock screen.
