Abroad, you often quickly use up your mobile data. That’s why we show you in these iPhone tips how to save on this during your holiday!
iPhone tips: save mobile data on holiday
There are people who play it safe and turn off their mobile connection completely during their holiday abroad. Although you don’t use anything, you also miss out on many of the iPhone’s features. With our iPhone tips, you can limit your data usage and still use most of the functions!
1. Use Data Saver Mode
There are a relatively large number of apps that steal data from your bundle in the background. One of the easiest ways to prevent this is to use the built-in Data Saver mode. Your iPhone then limits the use of mobile data by automatically pausing updates and background tasks. You enable Data Saver mode as follows:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap on ‘Mobile Network’;
- Tap on ‘Mobile Data Options’;
- Now tap on ‘Data mode’ and enable ‘Data saving mode’.
2. Turn off Wi-Fi Assist
The Wifi Assist function is used when the wireless connection is (too) bad. Your iPhone then uses mobile data in addition to wifi to still retrieve data smoothly. This will cost you mobile data. That is why in number two of these iPhone tips: turn off Wifi Assist. You do this as follows:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap on ‘Mobile Network’;
- Scroll down to ‘WiFi Assistance’;
- Disable the option.
While you’re here, it’s also a good idea to turn off the ‘iCloud Drive’ and ‘iCloud Backup’ options.
3. Exclude apps from using mobile data
Some apps use a lot more data than others, so it’s a good idea to exclude the biggest users from using mobile data during your vacation.
In the Settings app, go to ‘Mobile Network’. Scroll down and you will see all the apps that use mobile data. The biggest consumers are at the top (for many people that is Facebook), so it is a good idea to disable those apps (temporarily). In any case, you can safely disable apps that you only want to use offline here.
4. More ways to save mobile data
We conclude these iPhone tips with three more handy tricks. Of course, there are more ways to ensure that you do not immediately exceed your bundle abroad. Always check the settings of your most used apps. Often there is an option that helps you to limit your data usage in one way or another.
Also remember that sharing and publishing your vacation photos and videos online uses a lot of data. Try to do this as much as possible when your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Sometimes it is also smarter to turn off 5G and switch to 4G. Because the faster your internet connection, the more mobile data you use. In the article below we will tell you more about this.
