To which group of “lye” does the vascular surgeon belong?
Does he belong to a cardiologist or pneumologist group or..? Thanks in advance!
Answer
Best,
A vascular surgeon is not a cardiologist. A vascular surgeon deals with the blood vessels, but not the heart. There are various appointments where the work of the cardiologist ends and the vascular surgeon begins: usually just after the major vessels of the aorta branch off and certainly after the aortic arch. Thus, for example, the carotid artery will be the domain of the vascular surgeon and the coronary arteries of the heart the domain of the cardiac surgeon.
The “-lye” group are non-cutting specialties (with the exception of the gynaecologist) such as eg cardiologist, pneumologist, infectiologist, gastroenterologist, oncologist or endocrinologist.
