Is it safe to have children if my blood group is B negative and my partner’s is B positive?

We would like to start having children, but I have a blood group B negative and my partner B positive. Are there things we should pay attention to or is this perfectly possible?

Asker: Cynthia, 26 years old

Answer

Yes, it is safe to have children.

Immediately after each birth (because there is a good chance that your child is rhesus positive) you must receive the necessary antibodies against rhesus. Be sure to inform the person who will monitor your pregnancy and give birth.

The first child will never have problems, but if you don’t get those antibodies, the following children could have serious problems.
