Is there no sound from your computer? You can do this

Is there no sound from your computer, while nothing was wrong before? That could be due to several things. In this article, we’ll cover the options available to you. Don’t worry, you don’t need extensive technical knowledge for this.

It may seem a bit obvious, but check your volume bar first. It is possible that the volume has been turned all the way down by someone or that it has been muted. On a laptop, of course, you have built-in speakers – but PCs often have external speakers. So make sure that those speakers are also turned on and that the volume knob is turned up.

By on Windows adjust the volume, you will hear a ding sound. Can you hear that sound, but the audio of a game or app isn’t working? Then you have to check the settings of that game or app. It also doesn’t hurt to check the sound settings of the web player, such as on YouTube.

It can also be useful to disable the audio enhancements (if they are present). Busy with you right mouse button on the volume in the taskbar, select Sounds and check under the heading Advanced whether special things have been set.

Check your hardware

In line with this, it is useful to check some hardware. Left-click on the sound settings on the Start bar of Windows you will see an audio source next to a volume bar. When you connect external devices with audio settings (such as a display or external speakers), Windows may automatically switch to that new source. Even when they are off.

You may have a monitor with a headphone jack, without internal speakers. The sound can then still be sent to that display via HDMI, but cannot be played without headphones. So click on the hardware and see if you can switch sources.

Another solution is to grab a pair of headphones and connect them directly to your laptop or computer. Does it produce sound, but not the speakers on your laptop or next to your PC? Then you at least know that the audio still works in the base. In this case it may be that the built-in speakers of your laptop no longer function or that there is something wrong with external speakers.

With USB headphones you can check whether there is something wrong with the standard audio driver. Because such a type of headphones bypasses the standard driver.

Check your drivers

And then we come straight to another point: check your drivers. In general, if something goes wrong with your computer, always check your drivers. Open it Start menu and type the word ‘device manager‘ in. Open the app and go to Sound, video and game controls. Open that cup and see if there’s a yellow exclamation mark anywhere. Then you know for sure that you have to download new drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

If there is no exclamation mark next to it, it still doesn’t hurt to at least check if there are new drivers. you can with you right mouse button click on a driver and select Update driver Selecting. Or you manually go to the manufacturer’s website to download new software.
