I found this on the beach in Zeeland. It looks like a tooth but I can’t find anything like it anywhere.
Answer
Dear MH
Objects of this type are often found in Zeeland (Cadzand, Kalloot, ..). Enthusiasts search there almost every day for fossil shark teeth, shells and bones. I suspect you have found a fossil bone of a vertebrate, eg from a mammal or possibly from a fish.
I am not very familiar with vertebrate fossils, but if you want to know more, post your find with photos in different views than on Paleontica, also indicate a scale (eg with a coin) and state the exact location. I’m pretty sure you’ll get good suggestions.
Paleontica (formerly fossiel.net) is a comprehensive information platform for anyone interested in fossils. Whether you are young or old, layman or specialist, it doesn’t matter: there is something interesting for everyone on the site. If you want to post a find all you need to do is create an account and you are off on a journey back into the history of life on Earth. Have a nice trip!
