Interesting newcomer with ‘610 kilometers’ range

In Europe, the MG arrows are currently mainly focused on the Cyberster and the 4 Electric, here the two youngest models of the brand. The brand does not yet have a direct answer to cars such as the Volkswagen ID7, but that may soon change.
With the electric ZS, MG opened the gates of the European mainland. The brand managed to score quite a lot with that electric crossover. MG now has the fully electric 4 Electric, station wagon 5 Electric and a larger electric SUV – the Marvel R – in its range. What’s still missing? A mid-range electric sedan, a car that will allow the brand to compete with cars like the Volkswagen ID7 in Europe. It could just be that MG will soon have such a model here.

The plug-in hybrid Roewe D7 DMH
Meet the D7, a brand new sedan from Roewe that, like MG, is one of the brands of the Chinese SAIC. The Roewe D7 is 4.8 meters long, 189 meters wide and 1.51 meters high. In terms of size, it comes quite close to the 4.96-meter-long Volkswagen ID7. The wheelbase of the Roewe D7 is 2.81 metres. The Roewe D7 is available as a plug-in hybrid and with a fully electric powertrain. It is striking that the plug-in hybrid Roewe D7 DMH – as that variant is called in full – has a different front with more conventionally shaped headlights than the electric D7. After all, the fully electric Roewe D7 has a front with lighting divided over two layers, although that can perhaps also be labeled as conventional nowadays. The plug-in hybrid D7 DMH can travel up to 125 kilometers on a full battery, but it is the electric Roewe D7 that is much more interesting for Europe.

The electric Roewe D7
The electric version of the Roewe D7, which weighs more than 1,700 kilos, basically uses the same basis as the MG 4 Electric. The electric Roewe D7 has a 197 hp or 210 hp electric motor on the rear axle and an as yet unspecified LFP battery in its bottom. The 197 hp variant comes 510 kilometers away on a full battery, the 210 hp variant would note a range of 610 kilometers behind its name. Mind you, this has been determined according to the not entirely accurate CLTC cycle. The top speed of both variants is 170 km/h.
Why should the Roewe D7 come to Europe as an MG? SAIC has little else to offer in this segment. Yes, it supplies the 4.72 meter long and therefore smaller Roewe Ei6, but that model has been around for quite a few years now. The Roewe D7 is bigger, brand new and is also not the first Roewe car to come our way as an MG. For example, the MG 5 Electric is actually a Roewe Egg5 and the MG Marvel R is secretly also a Roewe.
Would you consider the electric Roewe D7 an interesting addition to the Dutch MG range? Why or why not?
