Mule or facelift?
The Aston Martin DB11 has been running for over six years now and, like its predecessor, the DB9, has a fairly timeless body. Still, Aston Martin is up to something with the DB11. We see a tightly packed copy here, which may hide more news than initially appears to be the case.
Aston Martin replaced the then 13-year-old DB9 in 2016 with the DB11. The DB9 turned out to have quite a long breath thanks to its widely acclaimed lines. Whether the DB11 can last just as long? That is still very much the question. This spotted test car raises the necessary questions in that regard. It’s clearly a heavily camouflaged DB11, so something new is coming anyway. Or that is a facelift for the DB11? The camouflage seems a bit too enthusiastic for that. Usually, the whole car is not packed in a side-point session. There is a chance that we are here with a so-called mule dealing.
If so, we probably have a DB12 masquerading as DB12 in front of us. One thing is certain, it has an internal combustion engine. The DB11 still ‘just’ has a V12 and its successor may also get it again. Former CEO Tobias Moers stated that the successor to the DB11 will be fully electric, but chairman of the board Lawrence Stroll later downplayed that. Stroll indicated a year ago that Aston Martin will first focus on milder electrification. After all, customers would not be jumping for fully electric Aston Martins yet. If this is indeed the DB12, it is expected to have at most a partly electric powertrain. It can also be a DB11 with such a powertrain, with which Aston Martin extends the life of the DB11. Just wait.
