Jaguar electric? These Jaguars keep roaring

Jaguar will become a purely electric brand from 2025. Bad news for those who love the sometimes delicious rolls that come from the ‘Jags’, but of course we still have the existing Jaguars.

Jaguar is showing its progressive side by only offering fully electric cars from 2025. Remarkable, because the illustrious brand has brought some wonderful-sounding cars to life over the years. A lot of them passed in review at Techzle. Open your speakers full or put on headphones, because it’s high time to give the roaring Jaguars another stage.

Jaguar F-Type SVR – Driving impression

In 2016 we drove the F-type SVR, which, thanks to its 5.0 V8 with supercharger, gives off a growl that perfectly matches the name of the brand. Of course there is more to this car than just that it sounds great, but in this video there was at least enough emphasis on the roar that came from the four exhaust ends.

Jaguar XKR-S – Driving impression

A little further back in time, ten years ago, we drove the Jaguar XKR-S on the Portuguese circuit of Portimao. There we investigated whether the XKR-S was a nice balance between comfortable and sporty, as we were used to from Jaguar. In terms of ‘comfort’ for the ears, it was in any case good, unless you do not like the sound of a roaring V8 or can not tolerate loud noises.

Jaguar F-type – Driving impression

That Jaguar does not need a V8 to spoil you with engine noise, the F-type proved when it was just there. In April 2013 Roy Kleijwegt drove the open version near Pamplona and was enchanted by the sound of the V6. With the push of a button you could open the valves for extra ‘noise’ and that made the V6 a wonderful howler monkey.

Jaguar XFR-S vs. Mercedes CLS 63 AMG – Double test

You can’t argue about taste, but although Jaguar has not really conquered the market with the XFR-S, it was a wonderfully extreme thing. At the end of 2014, we put this blast station next to the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. Two rather hefty and yet absurdly fast cars, with a sound that fits perfectly. Which one sounded the best? Judge for yourself.

Jaguar F-type 2.0 Turbo – Driving impression

So much for the big engines, because in 2017 Jaguar also decided to deliver a 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the F-type. Of course, we wanted to try it out in practice. You miss those extra cylinders, but there are cars that sound worse with such a ‘small’ engine on board.
