Jaguar is working on (partly) electric SVR versions

SVR-labeled jaguars are known as the most powerful and thirsty cars the British brand offers. However, a big blow of power no longer has to be inextricably linked to a large petrol guzzler, because SVRs will also be (partly) electrically powered in the near future.

(Partly) electric powertrains are of course primarily designed for ‘cleaner’ mobility, but they can also provide a lot of driving pleasure. More and more sporty (divisions of) car brands understand this, because electrical power is increasingly being used in cars that must be particularly fast. Mercedes-AMG, for example, announced that three years ago and is at least working on a partly electric AMG GT 4-Door. Porsche does it all electrically with the Taycan and the all-electric and lightning-fast hypercars can no longer be counted on one hand. Not surprisingly, therefore, that Jaguar now reports that it will use electrical power in its SVR models.

In conversation with AutoExpress, Michael van der Sande, director of Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), says that the first (partly) electric SVR is in the pipeline. “We are working on electrified versions of our cars, which will either be fully electric or plug-ins.” Before the arrival of those Jaguars, we will probably have to wait for the new modular platform that offers space for all or part electric powertrains: MLA. That is now being prepared for various cars, such as the new XJ and the upcoming Range Rover. Fully electric is a possibility, although it seems more likely that SVR will first go for the intermediate step and, for example, let the Ingenium four-cylinder or the new six-in-line work with an electric motor.
