‘For personal reasons’
Jaguar Land Rover CEO Thierry Bolloré will retire at the end of this year. Bolloré came to the helm of Jaguar Land Rover in 2020 and was previously CEO of Renault.
Thierry Bolloré will soon retire from Jaguar Land Rover as CEO. The Frenchman came to the helm of the British group in 2020 after the departure of Sir Ralf Speth, who retired after ten years as CEO. Bolloré is not yet at retirement age, he is 59, but still pulls the plug. According to Automotive News JLR parent company Tata Motors states that he is leaving for personal reasons. On December 31, New Year’s Eve, Bolloré will end his more than two years as CEO of the company. It is not yet clear whether Bolloré will leave completely, or whether he will remain involved with Jaguar Land Rover in a different capacity.
Although Bolloré was only briefly at the head of JLR, he nevertheless guided it into an important new chapter. Under his leadership, the decision was made that Jaguar will only sell fully electric cars from 2025 and Jaguar’s market position was reconsidered. The new electric Jaguar XJ and an as yet unnamed electric Land Rover, which were already in development, were nipped in the bud under Bolloré’s rule.
Jaguar Land Rover’s chief financial officer, Adrian Mardell, will take over Bolloré’s duties from the start of the new year. This would be a temporary appointment as CEO. Mardell took up his role as CFO of Jaguar Land Rover in 2019, having previously been responsible for the company’s financials in various roles. He is an experienced hand at Jaguar Land Rover, he has been associated with JLR since 1990, although they were still two separate companies at the time.
