Jaguar XK150 (1959) – Into the Wild

The sparrows are falling from the roof and there is no air conditioning in this Jaguar XK150, but that is no problem at all. Throw open the roof and you’re both cool and cool. The owner of this XK150 bought it right on time in that regard.

On bone-dry and hot days like these, it’s only a matter of time before you spot a classic somewhere. Open old-timers in particular are showing themselves again. This Jaguar XK150 is also there, but only recently. The already 62-year-old animal has only been on Dutch registration for two months. Just in time for beautiful summer rides with the hood down.

This example, spotted by colleague Joost Boers, is notable for its interplay of lines, thanks to the tasteful classic color combination, with its burgundy red paint and a beige-coloured interior. Moreover, a flawless overall picture, possibly thanks to a fairly recent restoration.

Although such an XK150 is a very rare sight, the chance that you will encounter it is slightly greater than with its predecessors, the XK140 and XK120, which have a somewhat more classic design, especially along the flanks. At the same time, such a Jaguar XK150 is very classic compared to the revolutionary E-type that succeeded it in 1961.

That does not alter the fact that the XK150 was already a very capable roadster. In fact, few cars could keep up with the XK150 (including the open version) in the late 1950s. This particular example is a 3.4 S and that means that there is a 250 hp version of the 3.4 in-line six in the nose. Enough to shoot the XK150 from 0 to 100 km/h in roughly 8 seconds and to break the 200 km/h limit. Anno 1959 very serious achievements. Undoubtedly, nowadays it is mostly quietly tugged around and you can bet that it is still a special experience. On to many more sunny rides this summer!
