It is not surprising, but even in Japan, car sales have completely collapsed as a result of the corona virus. The Japanese record the lowest level in 9 years.
With 270,393 cars sold, the Japanese are down 29 percent from the same month last year, Reuters reports. That is less intense than ours in the Netherlands, but it does mean that the Japanese have now reached an all-time low that has not been hit in the past nine years.
Sales figures were even lower in 2011, but this was also clearly identifiable with the worst seaquake in the country’s history and a massive tsunami.
In the category of tiny Kei cars that the Japanese car landscape is so famous for, the Japanese sellers even had to cut by 34 percent in April. The same percentage is noted by the Japanese car manufacturers for the decline in joint global sales in March.
Reuters does not report which models are the best in Japan, but according to best-selling-cars.com the Toyota Corolla took off in the first quarter with the profit. Toyota’s compact SUV Raize made it to number 2, followed by – yes, time-honored Nissan Note.
