Jeep boss admits: ‘Europe was not ready for just an electric Avenger’

Lesson for Jeep

Jeep Avenger

A striking statement from none other than the CEO of Jeep. According to him, it was the wrong strategy to initially launch the Jeep Avenger as an EV in Europe.

It was already a year and a half ago that the curtain came off the Jeep Avenger. It was only presented with a fully electric drive, although we already knew that petrol versions would eventually also be available. These eventually came onto the market in Italy and Poland, among others, with the Netherlands following shortly afterwards. Jeep boss Antonio Filosa – who was not yet at the helm at the time – believes that that strategy was wrong.

In short, according to Filosa, it was a bit too progressive. “The European market was not yet ready for a single electric Avenger,” he said in conversation with Automotive News. He is referring to some specific markets, where the EV market is still lagging behind: “We should have launched the fuel version earlier in Italy, Spain and Poland. We can learn lessons from that.” He is therefore careful not to repeat this with models yet to be presented. For example, the Jeep Wagoneer S will be launched as an EV, but Filosa does not rule out that there will also be a fuel version.
