A small disappointment for Jeep enthusiasts: the Jeep Grand Wagoneer to be unveiled on September 3, is unlike expected not a production version. The unveiling of the new concept car coincides with the introduction of the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4Xe.
The news about the Grand Wagoneer is not shouting to Jeep from the rooftops, but is evident from the description of the Facebook Live event that accompanies the unveiling of the newcomer. That’s called ‘Grand Wagoneer Concept & Jeep Wrangler 4xe reveal’, and that leaves little to the imagination. If the Grand Wagoneer turns out to be a concept car, that is quite remarkable. The market launch should just as well follow in 2021, so this is the right time for the unveiling of the production version.
Jeep does take the opportunity to make some teasers of the great newcomer known to the world. Earlier we saw many details, today we get to see, among other things, the top. That image clearly shows that the Grand Wagoneer has earned its ‘Grand’ name. The car is very large and also has remarkably large rear side windows. That creates room for an undoubtedly spacious third row of seats and perhaps a very decent luggage space. The Grand Wagoneer must therefore be Jeep’s answer to large SUVs such as the Chevrolets Tahoe and Suburban. Just like those cars, the Jeep shares its technical base with a pick-up. In the case of the Wagoneer, this is of course the Ram 1500. A photo of the corner of the dashboard underlines the fact that a great deal of aluminum and chrome material has been used in the Wagoneer (Concept).
At the same time as the Grand Wagoneer reveal, we finally learn how the Jeep Wrangler 4Xe is built under the skin. The plug-in hybrid variant of the Wrangler already shone in Las Vegas, but details were and still are guesswork. The Wrangler 4xe follows after the Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe as the third Jeep plug-in and could just be an attractive version in the Netherlands.
