Jeep has removed the curtain on an interesting harbinger in the United States. We’re talking the Grand Wagoneer Concept, a very production-ready preview of a new Jeep flagship!
The Wagoneer is back! Jeep breathes new life into the designation it used, among other things, for a luxurious variant of the Cherokee, but which is best known for the Grand Wagoneer (SJ). At least, very soon. The brand presents the Grand Wagoneer Concept, but although it is officially still a study model, the final production version will only differ in detail!
The Grand Wagoneer Concept, just like its illustrious predecessor (SJ), has a sturdy design in which angular shapes predominate. The near-production study model has flat LED viewers that flank a relatively flat grille made up of seven elements. On top of the nose is proudly the designation Wagoneer. The lighting at the rear is also very flat and even relatively simple. The whole is even somewhat reminiscent of the buttocks of stable mate Dodge Durango. Here too Jeep does not hide which model it is. The model name Grand Wagoneer can be read over almost the entire width of the angular buttocks. A striking feature is the roof in a contrasting color, an element that we have rarely seen on large Jeeps. Across the board, Jeep has incorporated remarkably few references to the Wagoneer (SJ) in the carriage of the Grand Wagoneer Concept.
The interior of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept is also strikingly modern. The tough interior, complete with a button-studded two-spoke steering wheel, is crammed with digital screens. Not only does the instrumentation consist entirely of a 12.3-inch screen, Jeep also places displays in the center tunnel. The top copy, accompanied by a series of shortcuts, is the infotainment system. Underneath a second screen with which, among other things, the seat adjustment can be adjusted. A striking feature is the 10.3-inch large display that has the front passenger separated from the driver by a wide center tunnel. Things such as navigation can also be observed on this screen. The rear passengers also have no shortage of screens. Not only do we find here two screens on which you can watch a movie, for example, a third screen is placed between the two seats with which things like climate control can be operated. Seven displays in total. Not bad.
Under the hood of this study is a plug-in hybrid powertrain that Jeep releases very little about. In any case, you can also count on a set of conventional six and eight cylinders in V formation. Once on the market, expecting a US market launch in the second half of 2021, the Grand Wagoneer will have to compete against cars such as the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and Chevrolet Tahoe. It is unlikely that the Grand Wagoneer will also come to the Netherlands. Never say never …
