Hybrid also as sustainable introduction version Upland
Jeep Compass and Renegade e-Hybrid
The new e-Hybrid hybrid system debuts on the Jeep Renegade and Compass. In essence, it may be a mild hybrid, e-Hybrid also makes pure electric driving possible.
This spring, the new e-Hybrid versions of the Renegade and Compass will be available at Jeep dealers. At first glance, this new powertrain – with 48 Volt system and belt start generator – resembles a mild hybrid: when decelerating, energy is stored in a battery, which is used by a compact electric motor to provide extra power when accelerating. But Jeep’s e-Hybrid can do more, although that sometimes depends on the battery charge status and the required power.
With e-Hybrid, the Jeep can start silently (because electrically), drive off in first gear or reverse. Traffic jams are also fully electric, as are some parking maneuvers. In addition, this Jeep can also drive completely emission-free with the petrol engine switched off. The latter is particularly special for such a compact hybrid system. The electric motor is only 15 kW / 20 hp strong, but can deliver 55 Nm of ‘e-boost’ (torque).

The petrol engine is a four-cylinder turbo engine with a capacity of 1.5 liters. This alone generates a maximum of 130 hp power and 240 Nm peak torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard on the e-Hybrid powertrain. Compared to the previous petrol models, consumption and CO2 emissions are up to 15 percent lower, according to Jeep.
Upland
A special introductory version for e-Hybrid Jeeps, the Upland, will be released. Incidentally, it will also be available on the ‘4xe’ plug-in hybrid Jeeps Renegade and Compass. Sustainable materials, environmentally friendly paints and recycled products are used for the Upland. For example, seats, headliner, floor mats and – with the Renegade – the black plastic panels have all been used before.
