Skoda April 1

April 1 is traditionally the day of the extremely lame but sometimes well-found jokes, jokes and pranks. Companies in the car world also regularly pull on the fun. An overview of a bunch of April 1 jokes that the gentlemen and ladies in the marketing departments must have had to get wet with.

Also this year, a couple of car brands showed their jolly side by throwing a nice and lame joke into the world on April 1. It was not as intense as it was at Volkswagen last year. Volkswagen somewhat clumsily announced on March 30 last year that it would change its brand name in the United States to ‘Voltswagen’. The American stock market watchdog SEC thought something of that. That joke that got out of hand did not persuade Volkswagen to leave April 1 this year for what it is, although the Volkswagen joke was considerably more subtle this year than last year.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen nail polish April 1, 2023

The English branch of Volkswagen announced on April 1 that it would launch a special nail polish. The nail polish would be available in the same colors as the brand’s cars and, thanks to the Fashionable Oil Overhaul Lacquer composition can also be used to repair scratches in the paint of your Volkswagen. The abbreviation for that ingenious composition? Indeed: FOOL Did you know that Volkswagen announced on April 1 exclusively via AutoWeek that it would organize a TDI Treffen?

Skoda April 1

That’s fine.

Pumped up dogs

The English department of Skoda also found a joke dress in the closet on April 1. The local Skoda importer conjured up its Pumped-up Pooches – pumped-up puppies – from the top hat, complete with a downright bizarre photo series of inflatable dogs. Why? With the Pumped-up Pooches you, as a potential Skoda buyer, can first try out whether your loyal four-legged friend fits in your intended Skoda before purchasing a model of the brand. Every Skoda dealer would have a pantry containing inflatable versions of as many as 222 different dog breeds.

Earlier in March, the Belgian Audi department already presented the Car Plant, a module placed in plain view containing one of the many available types of succulents with which Audi would answer customer demand for ‘more natural in the car’.

Subaru All-Heel Drive Shoe April 1, 2023

We are still waiting for the WRX STi version.

All-heel Drive

That the English and humor go together like Subaru and four-wheel drive, is evident from the special shoes that the English branch of Subaru said to have developed. It would have applied its years of expertise with four-wheel drive cars in a limited edition shoe with – yes – All-heel Drive. The walkers called Suba-Shoes would have springs placed in the soles in a grille-like pattern that give you an extra push forward with every step. The Suba-Shoes would have product code AF2300LS and what that stands for is of course easy to guess.

Subaru of America – the North American branch of Subaru – had also come up with a silly idea before April 1. It announced that it would enter the muesli market with Subaru Forager Granola, obviously a reference to SUV Forester. According to Subaru, eating Subaru Forager Granola is the closest thing to eating compost and is an ideal snack to get you through the most crunchy pursuits of life the pilots. The muesli contains grains, nuts, dried fruit and possibly even dog hair and is packed in a bag that you can put directly into the soil afterwards. “At Subaru, we strive to be More Than a Car Company, and now we’re literally More Than a Car Company, because we make muesli,” said the fictional Moe Muesli, Head of Texture and Granularity at Subaru of America.

Honda Hush April 1, 2023

Honda

Quiet in the back!

Honda conjured Hush (quietly) out of his joker’s inside pocket. Hush is a new piece of technology that allows ‘the most annoying sounds’ to be pushed to the background at the touch of a button by playing the sound of white noise, that of a whale or even typical elevator music. According to Honda, the system has been developed for drivers who are often on the road with young children, in-laws or colleagues and could use some rest. Sounds coming from the passenger seat and rear seat could be blocked simultaneously or separately. Desie Bell – yes – Head of Sound Technology at Honda indicates that the system will eventually be expanded with the possibility to make your passengers sound like your favorite celebrity.

Isuzu April 1

Izusu

Izusu

Isuzu came up with the somewhat odd joke that D-Max owners should look closely at the brand name in the grille. There could be an Izusu instead of Isuzu badge mounted. The message goes hand in hand with a link where you can find more informationalthough you will then be redirected to a page where you will be virtually served APRIL FOOLZ in huge letters.

Jeep mud look April 1

Jeep

Three types of gross

The English branch of Dacia came up with a fun campaign in early 2022 where you could have your Dacia professionally made dirty in an anti-car wash. This is because research would show that only 40 percent of all-wheel drive car owners have ever gone off-roading. Jeep introduced a free option on April 1 to have your new Compass delivered dirty. Jeep would have invested millions to have a bunch of spray robots fling things like clay, mud and other muck against the brand new paint of your Compass. The applied earthly misery would be covered with a resin to ensure that the dredge is on the car for at least six months. Extra buckets of mud and clay would be sold separately. Jeep’s Chief Mud Officer – indeed – says, among other things, that Jeeps look their best when they’re covered in mud. That sounds a bit like unintentionally bad advertising. Stellantis sister brand Alfa Romeo came to a gulp with the Tonale Edizione Bambini, a Tonale with, among other things, a webcam to keep an eye on the children in the back seat via your smartphone.
