Jorge Díez has been appointed as the new ‘Design Director’ of Seat with effect from December 1, the car brand announced. Díez is not exactly a stranger there, as he was previously at the helm of the exterior design department. After a number of wanderings within and outside the Volkswagen group, the designer returns.
Seat is enthusiastic about the return of the top designer. Díez headed Seat’s exterior design department from 2011 to 2014, and in that capacity was responsible for the third generation of the Leon, the fourth generation of the Ibiza and Seat’s first SUV, the Ateca. Seat CEO Wayne Griffiths does not exactly hide that enthusiasm. “Jorge Díez is one of the most talented designers in the automotive industry,” he says. “His signature is on many of our most important models from the past decade. It is great news that he returns to Seat. His international experience and the values of the Seat and Cupra brands will be reflected in the models we will be launching in the coming years. . “
His name may not be well known to the general public, but the cars that Jorge Díez designed are all the more so. Before joining Seat, he worked for Audi for seven years. The second generation of the TT and the first A7 are drawn by him. In 2014, Díez returned to Audi after his period at Seat. He was director of the Automotive Konzept Design in Munich and has also worked for Lamborghini and Ducati. In July 2019, he joined Mitsubishi’s European design division as Vice President, but his employment was short-lived. Since his designs at Seat are characterized by their clean lines, it is obvious that the brand will continue that design language in the future.
