Kawasaki has rolled out a recall for the Ninja E-1 and the Z E-1. There is a chance that the power to the electric motor, which provides the drive, can be lost because an anchor is missing in the battery.
During a periodic test through the quality department of Kawasaki Motors, LTD (KML) the power had suddenly disappeared at a Ninja E-1 in March last year. The terminal of the connector of the battery that provides the drive turned out to be dented, on which an investigation was started immediately.
Research with the supplier showed that the anchor for the terminal in the Connector of the drive battery was missing. The parts without anchors were test parts that had mistakenly ended up in the production supply.
The supplier went to inspect the stock of batteries that were produced before June 2024 before the assembly inspection process was implemented. This inspection still brought to light a battery whose anchor was missing. Because KML had no guarantee that no units with a defective battery had been delivered, a recall was decided.
At the Kawasaki dealer, the terminals of the batteries of the Z E-1 and Ninja E-1 will be inspected. If the anchor is missing, the battery will be replaced. Since June 2024, all terminals of the batteries have been inspected during assembly at the supplier.
